Aromatherapy for Gut Health

A healthy gut is essential for wellness. To quote from Hippocrates: “All disease begins in the gut.

Our digestive system is an important part of a healthy body. It is also linked closely to our emotional, cognitive, and immune function.

Apart from a healthy diet, adequate sleep, reducing stress, and being active, we can also improve our digestive health by using essential oils to help relieve symptoms, and improve function due to their antispasmodic, antibacterial, and anti-inflammatory qualities. Essential oils are perfect to aid and support our gut health journey.

 

Some symptoms of poor gut health and digestive system function includes:

However, there are certain essential oils that you use to help relieve symptoms and to help health and improve outcomes for your gut health.

Here are some excellent essential oils for digestive health and their uses:

Peppermint: Nausea, improved digestion, headache, over indulgence, constipation, reduce inflammation

Black Pepper: Warming, stimulates digestive tract, tones organs function, helps to stimulate acid production in stomach, reduces gas, helps to absorbs the nutrients

Ginger: Anti-nausea, great for IBS and Ulcers in the digestive tract, improves digestion, helps relieve constipation, stimulates digestive saliva

Lemon: Helps with nausea, uplifting to the sluggish digestion, stimulates digestive tract, cleansing, flushes out toxins and waste, helps bowel movements

Rosemary: Stimulates digestive juices, relaxes muscles in cases of muscle spasm, helps relieve constipation

Some ways to use essential oils to treat gut conditions and imbalance are as follows:

  • Massage Oil Application: Dilute essential oil blend into your preferred carrier oil at a dilution rate of 3% then gently massage into the abdomen.
  • Roller Ball Application: Dilute your blend into 3% with carrier oil and place in a 10mL roller bottle. Apply onto pulse points (Neck and Wrists) to help ease your digestion and allow oils to enter your bloodstream via topical application.
  • Hot Compress: To make a hope compress, add 3-5 drops of your chosen oil to a damp warm cloth and wring excess water out. Place hot compress on forehead, abdomen, and lower back alternately.
